Autopsy Round 10, 2024: Hawks get pipped by Power

Just want to say Frost was absolutely huge in the last quarter.

Give him another year in the Brown and Gold. He is heart and soul.

Remember that we lost this fixture last year by 9 goals. Now we’ve been unlucky to lose it by a kick without Sicily or Scrimshaw.

This team has grown tremendously over the past 12 months.

We should be excited because with another year of experience and another collective preseason we’ll be putting these games away.

Breust looked more fatigued than blokes who had played 3 quarters. Enough with the excuses for him please.

So many gave great effort today. It is sad that it turned to shit late. We overcame our 1st quarter crapness only to save it for the last quarter this week.

From the moment Brown mentioned the free kick differential in commentary in the third, Port then received 14 free kicks in a quarter and a bit. Astonishing.

It hurts to lose this game with 40 odd seconds to go and the opposition needing two goals. HTF does that even happen. This result is going to indicate what the remainder of our season is going to be about and to show us what this club stands for. I am a believer and hope it will be used to spur us moving forward. It cannot be allowed to leave deep scars.

I still can’t believe we lost.

I personally don’t think the coaches went defensive in the last quarter. We lost contested possessions and clearances which means we were working the ball out of our backline in wet conditions. If we went quick we would have coughed up more goals.

That’s what happens when you have Karl Amon as a defender. He will get you a goal with a money kick through the corridor and then give away a dumb free kick or not defend his opponent.

Gut wrenching loss but so many positives considering we had Lewis, Sicily and Scrimshaw out.

Wonder who comes out for Sicily and Scrimshaw?

Serong and Phillips were good and would be unlucky. Breust, surely is one. He was so far off the pace.
Breust so far off the pace??? 6 disposals in a quarter of footy and the ball barely went in the forward line. For mine he should have been in the starting 22

Expected to lose by about 6-7 goals yet, we were beaten by a half a minute. A Sicily, a Lewis, a scrimshaw, anyone of those gets us the win. Great times ahead.

Dermie just said what I was the TV. DON’T PUT Day out back. Put him in the ball
As part of our player development I would have liked to see Frenchie go behind the ball, and have Day on the ball.
Frenchie looks good when he can read the play and can take the safe/smart option. Day is a match winner who we largely wasted.
Would have been good for Frenchies growth, and arguably better for Days

Watching Hinkley carry on like a flog at the end of the game made me vomit just a little in the back of my throat 🤢

That one hurts, our midfield just went totally missing that last quarter.
When coaches celebrate like that against you and oppo supporters start celebrating you losing in a game like that, you actually know your heading in the right direction .
You've become relevant again and the future is very positive .

We did not deserve the win, we stopped trying to kick goals. We went 100% defensive on the last qtr. That is on us!
It’s on me. 12 points up and they kicked that point I said to a fellow watcher, they’ll get a get a goal from a free and kick another with seconds to go. Tattslotto numbers to follow. Winner of the 3rd at Flemington is FIIK

Two frees against. One of those kicks came off his knee after he dithered about, and his first touch was a handball he inexplicably gave up straight to an opponent. He looked too slow. IMO we should have subbed Watson out instead and kept CJ on.

I might be speaking with emotion rather than logic here, and I’ll take some time to calm down after this.

But I don’t care if we’re a young side that ran out of steam. If you’re 41 points up in the rain you should not end up losing.

That was quite simply an epic choke.

100% correct. Port were gone today and our own tactics handed them the win.
