2012 Post Season - Retirements and delistings (list changes) thread

I have recollections of a rumour Surjan had something wrong with his knee/leg over last couple of years?

A serious perfomance-killing problem similar to Cooney is the only explanantion that I can give. The rest of the delistings are fine by me.

okay, delisting him makes no sense but even delisting him right now makes less??

as a unrestricted free agent wouldnt we have got a pick for him if he signed elsewhere?

hell , i know it likely would have been tier 4 or something but still, i mean if you wanted him off your list you could wait til he signs elsewhere and if that fails delist later, i mean its not like we had to make a certain number of delistings right now or like we couldnt have made that number without cutting him anyway.

either

a) he asked for help so he could get on a list maybe to a team worried about taking in free agents

b) his injuries are super bad

c) we are ******ed. no offense meant to ******ed people,as in i dont mean to equate them with this decision. that would be mean.

maybe we have a new word

rohtarded?

I'll hold judgement now until we see what other changes are made and who else comes in.

In the remainder of the trade/FA period, I'd like us to nab (1) a tall, solid defender who can play 22 games next year (Gillies makes the most sense); (2) another midfielder - Young or Greenwood are the two options that seem reasonable from those we've been linked to; (3) a peripheral defender - I'm ok with us giving Russell a chance. You can argue comfortably that keeping Surjan would have made more sense, but Russell would fit into our best 22 the way it currently stands.

Delisting 1-2 more spuds or trading away Thomas is also a must.

At least Logan has the 'gives 100%' excuse. Daniel Stewart doesn't even have that.

Yep and that is why I will focus on D.Stewart's retention as being the worst list management error since Matthew Westhoff was retained.

Or the other way you can look at it is it raises the likelihood that we will play the likes of Ah Chee, Butcher, Gray, Newton, Pittard & Salter ???? (all never really played much this year due to injury/form). Then you throw in the new recruits of Monfies, Jarrah ? and the early draft picks from this year!

With the amount of draft picks we have surely we have to strike it lucky one year and unearth a gun player???

Gold Pass means you get a game. did not trouble the scorer too much last season
Injury was a factor for a large part of the season. As soon as he recovered bam 1 week later he's back playing for Port but got injured again in the game, 1st quarter as well iirc.

This wont be the last of the delistings. I expect more after the trade/free agency period ends and more after the UK trip and maybe 1 more player after the national draft to see who is still around for the PSD.

Depends whether you are a Bob Dylan fan - Times they are a changin', or a Bob Roberts fan - The times they are a changin' back.

Perhaps he's just been poorly coached?

D Stew has one attribute you can't teach. Size. He also has shown glimpses of skill and ability. Get him a good coach, and we could see a great player.

If I was a new coach I would want to have at least one year's crack at getting D Stewart to click.

Wondering why we did chose to straight delist Rodan? I guess we had no bites at all for a trade and had to make a call. Hopefully Thomas, Stewart and Logan are all put up for trade, with at least one of them being delisted if there are no offers.

There'd be clubs that are maybe interested in Rodan or Surjan but probably playing the same game we are with Russell.

Well this guy clearly kills the argument that the only reason why Surj was delisted is because he couldn't get in the park as often due to injuries.

At least in Salter's case it wasn't his fault - they ****ed up his foot surgery. Maybe the club feels bad about that and are willing to give him another year. I think we should.

And play him forward.

All Hail Statue Stewart.

At my count, we now have 23 AFL quality players on our list. And I'm not talking about good players, I'm just talking about barely AFL quality players. Three of them are ruckmen, so at least one of them will miss out on the side. Two of them play the same 'marking forward who's far too short to be a marking forward' role, and we can barely afford to have one of them in the side, let alone too.

B: P. Stewart, A. Carlile, T. Jonas
HB: H. Hartlett, J. Trengove, J. Pittard
C: M. Broadbent, K. Cornes, Brad Ebert
HF: A. Monfries, J. Westhoff, C. Wingard
F: J. Butcher, J. Schulz, M. Lobbe
R: J. Redden, T. Boak, R. Gray
Int: A. Moore, D. Pfeiffer, A. Young, ???

Taking Renouf and Brett Ebert (unless we make Monfries a full time midfielder) out of the equation for team balance reasons, who fills that last spot? Blee? Hitchcock? O'Shea? Thomas :( Logan :( D. Stewart :(

We better bring in quite a few AFL-ready players in trade week/the draft. Our depth is non-existent.

I'm in no rush to see Salter delisted either but can't use the excuse of Surj getting delisted bc of injuries solely bc of this bloke.

At least in Salter's case it wasn't his fault - they screwed up his foot surgery. Maybe the club feels bad about that and are willing to give him another year. I think we should.

And play him forward.

I don't think there's much compassion in this game these days IMHO so if he stays don't think this would be the reason.

Love Surj as much as the next guy but happy to see some hard changes being made, and more of the infected gone from that fateful day in 2007.

Surj > Logan and Banner > Ebert but realistically they are all fringe anyway and it is the 20-25yos who will be the elite core of our team and propel us to our next premiership.

What I WOULD have been concerned with is if a Newton type was delisted.
