This aged badly. Disconnect between the coach and the list management??

Apparently if you draft a guy and don't extend their contract past 2021 there's still a $30K hit on your salary cap the next year.
Which in our position will have no influence at all. Zero. We should be struggling to reach the minimum spend of the salary cap.

true, it’ll cost a bit of $, but surely we can cover it
Depends... What if they're planning on delisting Frampton this year, and paying out his 2022 contract - and grabbing 1-2 extra players at the MSD robs us of the flexibility to do this?

We could rather easily cover it. It could just be a time issue - another 2-3 players does mean it is less time for coaching per player, and really it's not like we are short on kids at the moment.

We really don't need raw players at this point in time. Outside of rucks but sorting that out here or in the national/rookie draft really doesn't change much.

Whatever the case, the club needs to explain to its members/supporters why we passed up the opportunity to draft (try out) 2-3 players, instead of 1. I think we deserve to know. I'm quietly frustrated.
Absolutely. Communicating to the members needs to happen. Understand that it should wait till after the draft but the club owes this to its members

We're lucky we're still paying players at other clubs this year

Just because some big footy posters constantly jump at shadows, doesn't mean the club has to bend over backwards to appease them.
A club with a wooden spoon list needs to be turning over every stone

Hopefully we do here

And it helps our current non best 22 by allowing them to play with better players - not so many tops ups. What are we averaging? 8 or 9 top ups per week?

So typically AFC.

We Know What We Are Doing.

'Trust the process' is the new mantra. We'll be seeing it used to excuse Dmac's selection in the selection thread soon.

If we think newcombe is the best player at our pick and we dont grab him then its an absolute joke..

**** the Hawks.. they are clearly trying to have their cake and eat it too..

They are attempting to slide a player they know is a first rounder into their second round so they can get 2 first round rated players.

Can you imagine the hysterics the victorian media would be carrying on with right now if the AFC were trying to pull a swifty like that. They’d be screaming “draft tampering” over and over and over again..

It’s such an obvious statement that doesn’t even need to be said. So why say the first part then?
It’s certainly confusing.
Probably covering all bases given that:
A - They were still probably figuring out what the best MSD strategy would be, in terms of
- players available in the draft
- their assessment of those players
- wargaming the draft, to determine what players would still be available at our later picks
B - They didn't want to give away our strategy, by committing to something early, allowing other clubs to gazump us.
