I don't know if the contested possession losses are due to coaching or type of players. Think it's the former, we're a bit too defensive minded with a focus on turnovers through tackles/pressure rather than winning the ball first. I'd also like to see us use our handballs when winning clearances to get a better kick forward rather than a quick hack kick. It might lead to a few htb & defensive issues but it'll be worth it long term imo.

Then he's just s***. Game after game, he just disappears for almost the entire match. Pops up with an odd goal or two and everyone shouts how good he is, then he disappears again.

He’s 21 and just kicked two vital goals in a huge final. 30 goals for the year, and would probably have kicked 40 if Buddy wasn’t playing.

People really are harsh on KPFs, especially if they’re a high pick.

Logan is tracking perfectly.

Absolutely devastated! 14 behinds, a few Carlton goals came from home town decisions (holding the balls not paid!), 2 fingernail goal reviews … and we only lost by 6 pts 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️🥲
A courageous loss … we have one of the best young groups coming thru and with 2 or 3 good recruits, I can see us winning a flag soon, hopefully with Gulden as captain ❤️

Sometimes you read a post that just leaves you scratching the ol’ noggin.

Tell me what he actually did in the second half when the ball came in long - it was weighting just doing as he pleased

Sure when the ball became a contest in forward fifty he showed that he can win the. Ball - - but if he can’t do that around the ground it’s not worth having a permanent stoppage forward fift specialist

Had 5 score involvements in the 3rd quarter alone!

Need a ruck and goal kicking practice. Also need more hunger. We were second at the ball and hesitated too much. Need to stop being a nice team and start getting the animal in us. We have the base for a good team but it needs to be brought out

not so much as the game went on ... i think that's a bit harsh
we were swamping carlton at the end ...
the real momentum killer was gulden's long goal being called touched ... from memory, that brings it back to a couple of points and feeds the momentum we had going, mainly because we had a taste of them at that stage, they were seriously rattled and it was as if one more goal would have broken them ... that's what it felt like
and that came from our hunger, almost ironically, in the fourth quarter
the first real turning point was mckay going down ... carlton seemed really thrown off by that
some of our tackling in the last quarter and a bit, the physical efforts ... carlton were almost done, i reckon, had that gulden goal been allowed ...
maybe that's overdoing it ... and maybe we were never going to go on much further in the finals ...
we lost the game in the first half, but we were the better side in the second, and by far the better in the last quarter

Bring on 2024 - 60th bday year for this old girl - cmon boys let’s make it our year. 🤞🤞🤞 we get Grundy

but weve had some great players who’ve had to retire - I hope Paddy Mac that you have good health & happiness you and your brother were a formidable duo in our backline. , Tom Hickey , you’ve enjoyed your last years with us and we’ve loved you for it. And then there was Buddy, what a thrill it was that you came to our club, you brought Sydney AFL alive and what a privilege it was to watch you in our colours. Life goes on I guess. Bring on 2024❤️🤍❤️🤍❤️🤍❤️🤍❤️

ha, yeah, 60 here too next year ... although i'm not in as much of a hurry

Heeney, Paps, Amartey (if fit), Mcdonald (1 yr older).. can all kick 40+
Mclean, Hayward can kick 30+
Cambell, Gulden, Warner, Mills, Parker, Wicks, JMac can kick 15+

A forward line that plays more games together can kick a truck load of goals

Sounds like we're kicking 9.14 again with 4 more scoring shots than the opposition

On selection calls - Melican for Fox was a massive success IMO. JMac for Stephens (or Fox if the magnets were swung around) was a bust.

In fact, Melican can probably count himself unlucky to (likely) not be best 22 next year if we do get McKay.

Can't say I was surprised with the result. The deficiencies were there all year and ultimately ended our season.

The game was lost in the midfield but we did what we could. When it's Parker or bust and Parker's carrying an injury, there's only one possible result. Hopefully we can sort that out during trade period (ruck, mid out biggest priorities).

In the coaches defence, they made the tactical change and it worked wonders, but the damage was done by that point.

The other error, which in fairness was only obvious in hindsight, was Fox was a defensive sub option. When they could have gone with Stephens who could have had a more positive impact. In saying that, it's merely speculative. And Fox was insurance I'm case Melican or McCartin or one of our other backs went down. I can see why they made that call.

Opposition has a bit to do with it as well

Gotta move on from Reid he is not the answer to his credit has managed to forge a career with constant injuries and setbacks.
We lack contested marking power, especially for when we're forced to kick long down the line. Reid and Buddy were our best contested markers. If we could get a good season out of Reid it would buy us the time we need. He fills so many gaps he should be nicknamed Polyfilla

That was hard to watch.
A lot of the same issues we had in our losing streak. Fumbling, missing targets, falling over, letting our opponents loose. Poor goal kicking obviously. Too much left to too few. Often 5 Swans waiting for one of them to do something. Incredibly frustrating.
McLean, close to BoG in a losing team, on his haunches, sobbing after the siren. Worth every penny we're paying him.
Gulden just trying to make SOMETHING HAPPEN. ANYTHING. Love him.
The last Carlton goal was very representative. Campbell, on his own (why?) with 2 Carlton players, tries to pick the ball up (why?) instead of knocking it towards the boundary (but not out), falls over. Game over. Typical.
If we play anywhere near our best we demolish that mob but we don't have it in us. We managed to do OK in clearances and contested but it wasn't enough.
Without getting nasty there's a few guys that need to have a long hard look at what they brought to the table tonight.

Parker going forward completely changed the game. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't seething about the fact that we didn't try it earlier. But props to the coaches for pulling the trigger.
