We need fit Reid more than ever, at least as a stop-gap until we get a proper KPF or McDonald finally comes good. Amartey is a real worry. It was crazy to sign him to such a long contract.

We lack contested marking power, especially for when we're forced to kick long down the line. Reid and Buddy were our best contested markers. If we could get a good season out of Reid it would buy us the time we need. He fills so many gaps he should be nicknamed Polyfilla

Oh i guess if you want another year of Reid i was thinking more longterm and past 2024.

We could have rolled over at half time but to their credit they worked hard to get back in the game. Skill errors really costly.

Great to see McLean taking some huge grabs down the line. That's been sorely missed.

Gulden had an epic season.

Warner down on last year but it's been a long year.

Not sold on Amartey. He can't mark the footy consistently.

McCartin is really stepping up.

I'm looking forward to a big freshen up over summer and the boys go hard next season.

Had 5 score involvements in the 3rd quarter alone!

These are all in the contest

He can’t play forward permanently ythe ball just rebounds too fast. It’s bad enough as it is as amartey and McDonald are unable to press the ball successfully.

It’s the contest in the forward line - ruck stoppages boundary throws etc where he does damage - his opponent runs off him intercept marks or just dominates in the air

A fair chunk of the difference between a grand final and 8th could be accounted for in the drop off in form from Papley, Heeney and Warner, three of our biggest names.

Warner’s getting more attention now and struggling to find the same space and hit targets under pressure. He’s had to battle injury too.

Heeney appears to be more a mental issue, just seems to be lacking the same confidence as last year and has been inconsistent as a result.

Papley has seemingly had to change his role and be inserted into the midfield rotation due to a drop off in the midfield which in turn compromises his scoreboard impact.

All are capable of more than what they’ve shown in 2023.

Ok, definitely agree with you re Amartey. No idea what to expect from him next year. Second to the ball all night but clunks a couple and slots one from 55 and he looks like a star.

Some strange criticisms of the forward line. We had ten less inside 50s and 4 more scoring shots. Do the math! Forwards weren’t perfect but all our KPFs are young and will be better for the experience. McLean was exceptional. McDonald and Amartey were quiet but had their moments.

No issues with Warner just trying to do to much and holding on to the ball to long.

He will adjust.

Asking Horse about Ben McKay in the presser after losing an elimination final.... FMD.

Injury and fitness. Just can't get a full pre season, a long run at it, and it shows.

Heeney the most over rated swan I’ve seen in years

Agree and also in the end it really was a lack of composure and Carlton stetted up really well behind the footy. Should've really hit the lead with our shots at goal.

Heeney, Paps, Amartey (if fit), Mcdonald (1 yr older).. can all kick 40+
Mclean, Hayward can kick 30+
Cambell, Gulden, Warner, Mills, Parker, Wicks, JMac can kick 15+

A forward line that plays more games together can kick a truck load of goals
Exactly. Since Bud has retired we have been one of the more effective teams for goals from inside 50. Plenty to work with.
