our midfield is smashed to pieces (we won the ruck like 20-80), is absolutely our weakest line, and you promote the midfield coach?

This is something we see at almost every stoppage/ruck contest. Naita is a machine and rarely gets beaten, his taps are sublime and straight down the oppositions throat and it's doing my ****ing head in! Why is it? Is it our midfielders who are failing to get into position to receive the tap? is it that Nic is too predictable and the opposition are all over it like flies on shit? are our mids too fumbly to gather cleanly after such a good tap? Is it that Nic makes it look better than he really is? (for the record I'm not going with the last one) just interested in hearing others opinions on why we dominate the hitouts yet get smashed in the clearances?

In the mix: round 11

WEST COAST EAGLES
After the Eagles managed just eight goals against Richmond, Ashton Hams will come into calculations for the St Kilda clash. The small forward had 31 touches and kicked three goals for South Fremantle in the WAFL on Sunday. Jamie Cripps has also put his hand up with three goals and 21 disposals for East Perth. Bradd Dalziell should be available for selection after missing the Richmond loss following his concussion against GWS. Beau Waters is an unknown proposition with his quad injury. He has only played four matches this year, and just one in the last five, against North Melbourne in round eight. Will Schofield is unlikely to be risked before the bye following finger surgery a fortnight ago. - Alex Malcolm

Look at the stars knocking down the door

Out: LeCras (needs a kick up the arse), A Selwood, Embley
In: whoever, doesn't matter
I love Lecras, he's my favourite Eagle but unfortunately I agree with seeing him dropped. Something isn't right with him, whether its the injuries, the time out of the game or a mental thing but either way he's not playing well and doesn't seem to have any heart this season.

When our forward pressure was touted as the best in the league Lecras was one that really applied the thumbscrews to opposition defenders with his pressure but this year it's nowhere to be seen. Sadly I think Lecca needs to be taken out back and flogged with a wire brush until he understands the difference between acceptable and unnacceptable.
And no its not just the cast and no he's not alone either... multiple floggings are in order

Mate, LeCras has continuously put his hand up for selection to help the team despite doing a knee and having a broken arm. It's not his fault he keeps getting selected. As far as I'm concerned, he's putting the team before his personal wellbeing. I think they need to stop picking him and give him a chance to mend his body, but he certainly doesn't need to be punished.

It wasn't even that the taps were being sharked - the biggest problem was that Richmond's midfielders were playing our midfielders at stoppages like backpacks and the tackle was being applied instantly. We were unable to generate open channels through the stoppage for the tap-and-runs we normally try. We need to have a plan b for those circumstances.

I understand what you are trying to say and like i said Lecca is my favourite Eagle so I'm struggling to out him and a wire brush is probably a tad harsh but I say it as I see it. It's all well and good putting your hand up for selection if you can bring your A-game but Lecras hasn't been lately and IMO if you wish to run out on that field then you are committed to give it everything you've got and sadly Lecras isn't delivering. He's tackling with rubber arms and seems to be giving up the chase very quickly as though its all a bit too hard.
You may also be right I'm not saying you aren't and maybe it should be put back on the selectors but my opinion still stands, if you put your hand up to play whether its for the good of the team or not you are committed and it doesn't appear to be just injuries that are hampering him. If its an attitude thing then a good kick in the arse is warranted.

Fair enough. Given the choice between a player that's prepared to play when he's not right and a player who rules himself out at the drop of a hat, I'll take the former. I suspect we have a couple that fit into the latter category on our list at the moment, unfortunately.

Again I see where you're coming from Marlin and I was of the opinion myself that an 80% fit Lecras would be better than no Lecras at all and this would still be the case if the old 2011 Lecca was fronting up but he isn't. I can let injuries slide to an extent because it's a reasonable excuse but it's more than just that with Lecca at the moment unfortunately. I have no doubt he'll come good but until he gets whatever it is sorted he needs to be dropped. Maybe give Brad Dick a run instead, it could be beneficial to all concerned but that's just my opinion which is based purely from a tv watching spectators point of view which doesn't hold much credit I'll admit.

Good to see that Woosh acknowledges:

- That once a team has worked us out we are slow to react ( has happened a fair few times this year)
- That Gaff is not playing good footy ( could be dropped for a few weeks)
- That our form is unacceptable ( very obvious but to hear Woosh say it for once is breath of fresh air)

and Woosh has given us a Plan B and C for when teams work us out?

Surely Gaff's contribution is substantially greater than LeCras' atm.

Misread that as LeCras' arm. Both are down on form currently, both shouldn't be immune from being dropped, both will be as Woosh is looking for stability.

A few fringe players had good WAFL games over the weekend. Is it worth giving them an AFL run so others can find form?

Where's RoJo when you need him?

I think our main mids have got to stop playing the same 'me first' role and start playing the team game.

It's interesting...you'll notice at the game that the midfielder who does the most blocking is Shuey. Now, credit to him, great team play. But the fact that our most attacking, most damaging offensive midfielder is doing the majority of the blocking, for guys like Priddis and Scooter just epitomises everything wrong with our midfield.
