If anyone wants to know the absolute pinnacle of being a momentum killer on a football field is, Richard Douglas’ first quarter of the 2017 GF as painful as it is to re-watch should be reviewed by anyone who ever refers to him as a ‘class’ player.

Yep. totally agree. Even though we were in front I was screaming at the TV for Pyke to take him off. He was clearly out of his depth, and as a senior player, he was sending a really bad message to the playing group. His ticket should have been stamped for good after that game.

I'm not a fan of the idea either, but that's a broad football belief that Camporale has, regardless of who we are playing. I would assume it'd be Douglas, i've always thought Kelly could do the role well if we needed someone to tag as well.

The Kelly tag idea is brilliant.

If he gets held back and comes in on the Thursday for the Richmond you could understand this decision.

Otherwise it makes no sense. He's one of our best dozen players IMO and we are more likely to lose now that he's not playing.

My memory sucks these days but didn't we improve this year when Greenwood got back into the team. We all know he can take a pack mark and is clean on the ground. His physical presence and size is always a problem for the opposition and he does occasionally kick the odd goal.
Perhaps the match committee is worried about his leg speed for this game seeing as the Giants have pace in most areas.
I can only hope this is a 'match up' decision for this one game because we are better far better with Hugh playing than him not.

We definitely looked stronger in the midfield when Greenwood and CEY came into the side.

I don't think he'd get held back from playing. I'm trying to remember when this happened last time and it was for fitness reasons and he got straight back in, pretty sure he played SANFL that week too.

I already told you, it's because we were stuffed by quarter time (hence they were able to have 9 scoring shots), it took a lot to get back into the game down our best player who is also a midfielder which affected our rotation (especially with Seedsman underdone) and we were virtually stuffed by the last quarter. Given the inconsistency and how we meekly fold (even when leading comfortably) all season, I didn't didn't think we would even fight back especially after losing Sloane in the 1st quarter in Darwin in 27 degree.

It's one game, i'd hardly be calling that "falling our of favour" yet. He's not a guy that has high levels of fitness, it was 27 in humid weather and he probably had to spend more time on ball last week than planned due to Sloane being injured. It's a complete non-story at this point.

He had to play more on ball last week after Sloane injury.

20th in meters gained at 435 m per game, 5.5 score involvements per game, 4.5 inside 50s per game. When it comes to being an outside midfielder, Atkins is well and truly doing what we're paying him for offensively.

Unfortunately, he's a classic outside midfielder in flaws as well as strengths hence why we're here and your bamboozled as to why he's still selected, because him getting brushed aside every time he tackles is very much a who cares thing. We're not playing him because he's a defensive behemoth, we're paying him to supplement our outside game.

I take your point. Even when compared to other wingmen he doesn’t stack up well though. Ranked very low in effective disposals, disposal efficiency % (which is usually higher for an outside player), tackles and goal assists. Ranked comparatively high in turnovers, clangers etc. Tried to find missed tackle numbers but couldn’t. I suspect they’d be high. Check Fox Sports Lab for some good comparison data.

Yep, it's baffling. If Douglas is coming in to play mainly as a forward as Hart says he is, then why not just play Greenwood there instead?

He was disappointing a few times with his lack of attack on the ball. You'd hope he'd be better this week with another game in his legs.

I think McHenry is too good for us to pigeon hole him early into a forward pressure role. He's certainly a better overall player than Murphy, but the role they have there is pretty much perfect for Murphy at the moment. Like with Jones, i'm not convinced that they'd have more success in a limited role than who we already have in.
