Not sure about Duffield’s sources here, I’ve got it on good authority we’re going to roll over and let Barrass leave for bugger all.

Sounds like Duff’s just trying to increase his value to combat the vic media who are trying to decrease it , he spoke about it months ago on Cornes sen show.

Why wouldn't the Hawks give up two firsts? Their list is in an excellent position. Their midfield is set with ample replacements in Moore and Mackenzie playing off a half forward flanks. The positions they need to round out the list are positions that they can fill with second, third, fourth rounders. Their biggest need is a KPD and they've now got an All-Australian calibre defender requesting a trade there.

12 + F1 won't come for free. I expect to give back our F2. Hawthorn's draft hand this year is already thin and if they give us 30/F2, they'll be down two picks over the next two drafts versus a pick downgrade alongside losing pick 12. I don't know Hawthorn's list or targets so I don't know what other levers they could pull but I would be surprised if they put up much of a fight when they're potentially going to land a genuine premiership piece.
12 and F1 for Barrass and F2 will essentially be Barras for 12.

Hawks win flag. F1 Pick 18

We win the spoon. F2 Pick 19

Or Hawks slide ala Freo after 22 and along with injuries and finish 10th

Eagles new coach sees us win 8 games and finish 14th

12 and 9 for Barrass and 23

I still think that we need to try our best to turn 3 and the Barrass pick into 3 or 4 picks. See if gcs will swap 3 & 12 for 6, 13, 20. Throw in 23 if it gets the deal done. So we end up with 6, 13, 20 & 23. Use 20 on Baker and we are left with 6, 13, & 23.
Or... see if Sydney will swap 13 for 18 & 19. Throw in our 57.
In a perfect world that gives us 6, 18, 19, 20 & 23. Use 18 on Baker & we have 6, 19, 20, 23. The question, is either of those hands better than 3 & 12 and having to scramble to get Baker.
There's been a lot of talk on this board about FOS, Smillie and Draper. Looking at Cal Twomey's latest phantom draft, we would get our pick of those guys at pick 3. If we traded 3 for 6, we potentially miss out on all three as Adelaide would take Draper at what would be 5 and Reid is apparently a flight risk. I'm not a draft watcher myself but looking at the conversations, we would want a pick no lower than 5 or we'd be comfortable splitting the pick for two picks no lower than 11 (based again on conversations, mostly involving the likes of Lalor and Travaglia).

Plenty of water to go beneath the bridge but I think Gold Coast is an awkward trade partner for us unless we're eyeing off two players below pick 5, in which case, with some help from Freo, we might be able to flip 12 (HAW) + 23 for 9 + 27 with a promise to leave Bo Allan to them, leaving us with a draft hand of 6, 9, 27 + 59.

• Barrass and F2 to Hawthorn for 12ish and their F1.
• 23 for Baker.
• Sign Graham to enough of a deal to get Richmond a second round compo, which in reality is a little bonus for the Baker deal. You wanted a mid first, here’s two early seconds instead.

Leaves us with no second rounders this or next year, but in our hand is 3, 12ish, our F1, Hawks F1, Baker, Graham.

ezpz.

Can someone explain to me why we only have pick 23 and not pick 21?

That's not how trades work. There will be an agreed value and pick swaps to meet that value where required.

ie. Barrass + F2 ~ pick 8 in value

12 + F1 = pick 8

18 + F1 + F3 = pick 8

In the latter example, if we don't like F3, we negotiate that up to pick 30 and offer our F3 back. ie. 18 + 30 + F1 for Barrass + F3 or whatever deal that works for both sides to achieve the agreed value.

Would we be at all interested in Will Brodie?

Can't see this happening now.
The statement seemed pretty clear that they will just try to facilitate the trade while trying to get the best deal out of Hawthorn.
A big contrast to the reaction to Petracca wanting to leave, or being bitterly disappointed that Willie asked for a trade.
The statement is saying little.

Behind closed doors they might be seething and wanting a lot more than one late first round pick.

Just assuming the poker face and not showing the cards.

I know Hawks losing first final is what people want but that gives us pick 12 and not much else. Maybe a F2. I bet it becomes a F3

But
If Hawks win week one and lose week 2 then it's pick 14. F2 firms.

If Hawks make prelim or granny however, then it could be pick 16/17.....and that's when there F1 has to come into calculations.

It sounds like a lot of the negotiating is already done with an understanding, but I bet that was based on missing finals and a top 10 pick.

So would you rather?

pick 9 alone
Pick 11-13 and F3
Pick 14-16 and F2
Pick 17/18 and F1

In some way it might be better for us if they win the flag!!

Look, we are not the price takers in this scenario.

Sam Mitchell came and wooed him, now he has to pay.

A late first round pick is absurd.

Richmond want that for Baker. In a chess game Baker is a pawn, and Barrass is a bishop or a rook, not equivalent value at all.

But from reading this thread I'm lead to believe our recruitment team are playing checkers.

Its about time we got some good news barrass leaving is a huge win. He wont be around when we are vying for a top 4 position, pain now huge gain in the future.
Yep I'd be offering Liam Ryan and darling for whatever we can get back. 2nd rounder for Ryan and 3rd for darling.
Load up and see what we get in the chook raffle

Carlton do need a small forward so Berry makes sense for them, but I do know that they are very keen on Travaglia, which might be a problem.
Here’s hoping the Blues upset the lions next week and will be absolutely on the Dogs bandwagon for the Hawks game.

His current contract was signed in December 2021, near enough to 3 years ago. Fair to say a bit has changed since then, not least a massive increase in the salary cap that wouldn’t have been predicted at that time

He’s been offered better money on a longer term and by all reports would’ve stayed had we pushed a bit more money his way

As it turns out, the value of the draft pick(s) we can get for TB is more beneficial in the long term than retaining him

Trading him has been as much the club’s decision as it has Tom’s
Contract is binding.
I am keen to see him go - aging, poor kick, very poor one on one and very poor against a leading forwards. Interesting that he was hopeless as acting captain - didn't sit well with him. But he certainly has his strengths in defence.

If we gave back f2 there could be very little between their f1 and our f2.

We will be bottom 4 and they will be top 4. Could be pick 17 for pick 20.

Has to be our f3 if anything.
