What do you think Chesser and L Edwards have been doing on the defensive wing and HFF? Brockman also.

Both are playing defensive roles to allow the inside mids to attack.

How many times have we heard commentators and even our own players say we need ro learn how to support Kelly and Reid work through tags.
Gaff and Sheed are out because they lack pace and lack defensive skills and accountability, thats why they are out.

Graham can also play on ball either defensively or offensively. He isnt a one trick pony who can only play one position and one role.
Yeah I understand “roles” need to be played. But they need to be played by more skillful players than Rowan Jones and Jack Graham. Chesser will at least provide some pace and class when he gets a few games under his belt.

All Graham does is clog a spot. We’ve already got enough senior players shielding the kids in the guts. I think Hunt is a good comparison, fills a spot and is pretty solid tbf but ideally you’d still want an upgrade there. We don’t want too many of these nothing types blocking the pathways for the talented kids.

You sound like someone who wants their cake and eat it as well.

Do you use good picks on role players? No.

Do we have so many picks we can us them on a better role players than Hunt and now Graham? No we dont.

In your world we have picks we dont have to use on players we cant afford and wouldbe a waste because you dont use good picks on role players.

You say he a list clogger. But want to use pick 90 instead. Picks that late get you what? List cloggers and ones that waste years proving they arent AFL quality.

This obsession with graham is getting strange. Last night for a lot of the last quarter we had Duggan, yeo and Kelly in the middle. Why on earth do we need to add another senior body to that mix?

Dont give a rats about Graham as an individual in this discussion.

Its the "we should draft better players instead of getting a Graham (or any other mature role player as a free agent). When we simply dont have the picks.

Thats what Im pointing out. Saying "draft better players instead" is a total fantasy when we dont have the picks to do that.

Is that really hard to understand?

Just because we don’t have draft picks doesn’t mean we are obligated to pick up mediocre players that don’t fit a need.

How about we target positions that we need such as attacking half backs and wings?

In 2 years time(start of 2027) our guys with any chance of being in the 22 between 25 and 30 will be something like Allen, Waterman, HEdwards, English/some other ruck. (Assuming we trade Barrass).
Cole turns 30 in May that year.
Incredibly light for that age bracket, they're also all talls.
Hunt will be 31, Duggan 30, Yeo 33, Kelly 33, and that's about it for senior players remaining.

Everybody else will be younger, with most of them being 22 or under, the 2022 draftees will turn 23 that year.

If we add Graham and Baker that brings us to 6 in that 25-30 bracket.

If we go forward 2 more years to when we realistically expect to be a finals contender, itll be just Allen, Waterman, HEdwards, English, Baker and Graham who all will be about 30, with just about every single other player on the list being 25 or under.

We could grab another free agent or trade in another player but thats still an incredibly young list.

Personally I think Cole's recent form locks him in the b22.
He has been part of bringing in the functional grunt work that has been sorely needed.
Yep I’d have him in the second group but figured if any inclusion would derail the conversation around the entire list it would be that.

Assuming we stick to a 7-8-7, he’ll surely get an extended crack at the seventh defender under the new coach.

Imagine thinking graham is good enough to be on any list in four years time.

He probably won't be, but if it's because a kid has pushed him out then that's a good thing.
He costs us 0 trade capital remember.

Its almost like you think he's an expensive get lmao he's better than every single player that's been mentioned as a possible delist this year

Pot kettle? Did he stuff up your multi or something in the past?

It’s only a rumour and Mitch Cleary said Simmo was a fan of Graham and it will be interesting to see if the new coach still goes down that road.

Fair game by Graham today though.

Curtin played 6% game time today, bringing his average time on ground down to 31% over 4 games. He can't be happy with his situation there.

If he was to ask for a trade this year how much is too much to give for him?

1st rounder from the Hawks for Curtin and a 2nd rounder?
The 2+23 for 4+Curtin?

Curtin seems quite risky trade. Sounds like he wants to be a mid rather than a kpd and we really don’t need any more mids that have midfield potential but aren’t mids really.

Curtin is a mid, not a KPD.

All his best games have been as a midfielder, or played a utility role.

No chance the first one and unlikely the 2nd one (we can throw in Barnett). They’re fans are always linking them to players from their state (which makes sense) Draper and Dodson would be a few of their fans draft

Every campaigner who wants to trade the can get in the bin.

Allen, Waterman, Jilliams is looking very fine to me.

Just need a proper first ruck. Billiams is the one we should be prepared to let go. Bailey has provided leal service but the flipside is he has gained some league currency. It's in both parties best interest to cash in that currency sooner rather than later.
