Nankervis should not be captain next year. His incident which led to his suspension was inexcusable as we have now gone up against Melbourne without a ruckman to contest against the might of Gawn.
I thought Soldo rucked well against Gawn, although you would never know given the commentary. Gawn had 40 hit outs to 26, but by and large Soldo beat him in the centre bounces which is very important against Melbourne. The problem was after half time when we rested Soldo a fair bit, Gawn was up against both Miller and Pickett. Your point of Nank's dumb report is valid, two rucks is always the go against Gawn.

The cynic in me thinks it's because we won 3 in 4 years they don't want us getting anywhere near being able to challenge for a flag. That's why we got that corrupt disallowed goal call in last year's EF. It's the same reason all these non-frees and highly suspect 50s come out just when the opposition need them to get back into the game.

My other theory is the umpires are under directives to keep the games as close as possible to keep the betting agencies happy. So at the weekend as soon as we get 20 points up, out come the dodgy 50s to help the godeees get back into the game. It was only after Broad had his head ripped off and pinged for holding the ball that we dropped our heads and they steamrolled us.

They don't want us in a position to challenge for another flag.
The end of the Sydney game, no 50m paid to us was another dubious call, the umpire over ruling ARC decision also not good, but we were ahead in the game with a short amount of time left and we allowed them to kick the winning goal when we had 5 to 1 in the goal square.

We could not win a close game; Prestia got injured & Dusty was rusty. We would not have got far in the finals. We finals blooded 5 players think. Sonsie & Ross were good.

The rules of AFL have too much grey area that 4 umpires hasn't corrected. The Hopper 50m absolutely red hot yet the umps have ignored the "protected zone" 50m across the league. Watching the game I was expecting the whistle to be blown a lot of times against us.
Shocking free kick against Broad. But after the 1st Qtr they kicked 5, 6 & 6 goals.
End of the day we lost by lose by 32 points. Soldo wasn't bad but Max Gawn and unbelievably good marking and kicking by JVR, Melksham & Petty. Our midfield just not cutting it.

You realise you can gamble on any winning margin? Next week we are $2.40 for a win; $3.80 for a 1-24 point win; $5.20 for a 25 plus win.

I think the AFL get a % of every bet made so winning margins are meaningless to the AFL.AFL Gambling Earnings $30~40 mill.

The RFC free kicks table
% For/ against
2014: 1st
2015: 2nd
2016: 10th
2017: 4th
2018 17th
2019: 5th
2020: 3rd
2021: 18th
2022: 16th
2023: 17th

I would hazard a guess 2021 was the start "STAND" which, IMHO we handly poorly as a club. 2022 was the dissent year.

Coudn't make the game unfortunately...on a course.

Watched the replay and saw the very best Richmond form seen in 3 years. Exhilarating footy.
Last Q I think the Dees were just too strong across the ground and won important contests that drove the result. Gawn.
Frees not paid. Frees Melb got. FFS it's just not right.
I would've been content to lose on our merits if the umpiring wasn't such a significant factor.

What got me was the "State of the Game" crisis . Wow. Big panel of footy great minds come up with radical new rules. I thought there'd be trials for a season. Nah. Just let er rip.
In the middle of the Dimma era. 666? RFC set up most like that, kick in zone affected our 3 small fwds strategy.
All supposed to increase scoring, which it never did.

My opinion is the AFL love any controversy. No CEO? No worries just more talking points. Ump inconsistency? No worries, just more to talk about. Hocking moving back to G'long and win a flag? No worries. more angst among.

They know fans keep rocking up & its an amazing game.

for clarity we got ONE free after half time , the one basically on the final siren
We also got one at the beginning of the third term. Would love to see a stat on how many quarters have each team received two or less free kicks

We'd be the runaway leader.

What would a successful RFC appeal look like?
Under what circumstances is it reasonable for the umpire not to apply the rules of the game.? On this occasion a 50m penalty should have been granted as per the rules and it is likely it could have effected the result. The rules were not applied like they should and the result was was not compromised, sounds for all money like a FIX

Yeah the umps knew it was a free and couldn't agree on 50m. And should've been a draw. RFC still end up 7th.

This is the downside with multiple umpires, the expectation is for more eyes making for a correctly umpired game. But the squillion grey areas are a ongoing nightmare.

I remember 1 ump. The good old days.

Gibcus to miss the whole year from a pre season hamstring
Think something needs addressing in the high performance area for next year as a lay person this seems unbelievable

I just can’t believe a flipping hammy could take 5moths, I really feel for the kid , we need to engage some external parties to help coz our SC haven’t a clue

It's just about the story of the season for us. How the hell can a pre-season hamstring injury last the entire ****ing season?!? And while we're talking hamstrings, are we sure Short will be back soon and not be missing until halfway through next season?
