Autopsy Solid win against Freo

Just want to say that I think the club might need to address with the players the post-win situation when in WA. Every time - without fail - most of the players don't come over to the fence or interact with the fans beyond a smile and a wave from afar.

Now it doesn't bother me at all. I've had enough mates play at the level to know some players simply aren't comfortable with fan attention and it's not ideal for them. I respect that.

But I stood near a kid calling out for Callum Mills to come over. Our skipper, who talks so much about the fans and the culture of the club. He gave a wave and couldn't have pivoted away faster. And a bunch of guys with a sign saying "Rowbottom's #1 fan" literally screaming and begging James Rowbottom to come see them, and he stood back and with a smile and a thumbs up, followed Mills back the other direction. To say nothing of the many who were likely seeing Buddy for the last time only to have him clap in their direction and then high tail it out of there.

Again, none of this bothers me, and I'm not one of the fans who feels entitled to recognition and appreciation from footballers just because they do their job. Others aren't the same and there were quite a few around me angry and disappointed.

This happens at every game in Perth, so I dunno. Not saying I know the solution but the club maybe wants to look into it as it feels like there's always a disconnect there.

Possibly a directive to get to the airport in time for the last plane ?

Hope that was the case.

Seemed to be a sizeable Swans contingent there as well. Seeing your team in person once a year is tough. I know this from my years of exile in Brisbane.

I got to see them twice this year. It was fantastic. I'll advocate for more SE Queensland teams in the future just so I can see more Swans games

Heeney and Mills looked the best physically they have in ages, makes a massive difference

yes! and both looked like they were enjoying their footy too, which certainly for heeney has hardly seemed the case too
and hayward, the way the team got around him after that first goal, a great sign, and to me from that moment it felt like we would win
mcinerney continued his return to form, i thought wicks was really good, one of his best games, although not necessarily in stats
fox bounced back, mcdonald continues to develop

and as usual, going by the gameday thread and this one, some posters can't help focus on the negative ...

Awesome win! I heard our forwards coach told the boys to aim for the behind posts hence why it went tbrough the middle.
Just like I’m starting to believe the only way to beat Collingwood is to give them a 50 point lead at three quarter time. They won’t know what to do with it.

Funny to say it given we won by a club record 171 a few weeks back but that was our best performance of the season.
That was a massive win, but given the opposition, it wasn't our best. We actually could have played so much better that game.

Last night was better because of the location, and how we glued things together, and, unlike many times this year, when the opposition started getting momentum, we didn't put our heads down, instead we stood up and stopped it

Freo ain't much but when they challenged we easily held our own. Satisfying win with any critique reduced to nit picking.

Cunningham another excellent shut down role on Walters (who they just have a two year contract to 🤯)

Fun to see everyone playing freely in their correct positions. No more Fox forward pls.

Buddy winding back the clock was magnificent, and a few nice set ups for team mates in better positions

Loved the win. Great resilience to keep responding whenever they got a goal we would peg one back.
I feel like we are the worst team in the competition for effective use of the substitute.
So glad to see Clarke on the bench instead of Francis. Then appalled to see that when they were getting a run on in the fourth we didn't send him out there to give us a bit more run.
We have frequently stuffed this up at selection and other times completely forgotten we have a sub and not using it.

Congratulations guys. You’d all be proud Swan supporters this morning. Clearly your best win of the season.

Is it all but confirmed that Buddy is retiring or is there a possibility he goes one more?
Cheers mate.

No one knows. Certainly a few supporters thinking there might be merit in giving him another 12.

Pretty freakish for 36.

Ta. Slowly getting injured players back and into form.

Who knows with Buddy , he is an addict of the game. But I'd be staggered if he did not call time.

yes, that was one of the highlights ... several posters have accused of us being mentally weak, which i think is unfair and ignores the obvious fact that sometimes other teams just do enough things that bit better ...
last night, particularly in the second half, we clamped down just when freo looked to be building
parker was very important in that regard

Wicks pressure was good, there is a spot there if he can maintain that.

Heeneys goal kicking only real issue and the way he nailed the last one makes it seem like mental yips ,
hopefully a confidence boosting shot for goal after the siren

We were underdone at the start of the season. Unfit. Our fitness has grown as the year has progressed. If we make finals, look out.

To a point , there is still some mental fragility there , Freo couldn't capitalise. Long way to go to be a threat, but if you get there you have a shot

True. Although he barely had a one on one marking contest tonight and burnt a few times on the lead. Seems the only time he is a marking contest he is trying to clunk it around 10 people. Feel our forward line needs to run better leading patterns as a group to give our KPFs a better chance.
Buddy was fantastic tonight. Turned back the clock!
I agree. A number of times I saw both Amartey and Mcdonald flying against each other or competing in the same pack. Once they have played together a few times they will develop a better understanding and be able to separate the defenders better. Buddy not being there will also help, but it takes time.

The first quarter spacing was excellent . They lost it as the game went a bit , Amartey didn't play well when he had chances mind you
