Wonder if the backline woes early on in the season are a combination of a new group playing together after a long layoff (especially incorporating Paddy into it) or Florent and Fox are just better. Probably a combination of both. Cunningham the odd man out. Been a tough year for Harry tbh.

Malcolm Conn living up to his surname and clearly salty as f***, writing this in the age:

“The sellout crowd’s biggest contribution was booing Collingwood’s controversial small forward Ginnivan for receiving a free kick for a high tackle, which had made the bottle blond such a talking point in recent weeks.

The free kick was entirely justified after a desperate second quarter tackle from the otherwise excellent Paddy McCartin coathangered Ginnivan, who kicked Collingwood’s only goal of the term.”

Couple of things here:

  • the sellout crowds biggest contributions were cheering Sydney onto a stunning victory and sending off Josh Kennedy
  • as achey highlighted in the main board, McCartin’s contact started below the shoulder, Ginnivin was already raising his arm and dropping his knees before the tackle, and then pushed his arm up further and threw his head back like he got shot.

Maybe Malcolm is worried about G’s mental health. Not sure G is or he would stop cheating and brining the attention on himself. For as long as he and others do it (Weightman) then people will keep calling it out. AFL is not soccer and we are not going to let it go that way.

McDonald is not impacting the stats but he is impacting the game. He does a power of work and just doesn't stop. A bit like Tommy Mc down the other end and I bet no one is calling for him to be dropped............
I thought it was McDonald's best game when playing with Franklin.

Appreciate it. A gentleman's/ladies agreement that should either team encounter the Tigers on our way through that we rip them to shreds?
agreed, can I add Carlton to this agreement please? Presuming they actually play finals.

The booing stuff is boring, but the Ginnivan free kick and goal was the text book on what we were told 6 weeks ago they were trying to stop. Dropping your legs to milk a free kick.

Papley had one earlier in the game which was called play on.

Very gracious. You guys ain't done yet.
Thanks, I’m hoping we have a little life left in us but if we don’t it’s still be a great season for us.

the whole defence was epic

yes! arguably the most mature team defensive effort in a few years ... easy to say in hindsight but i thought we had that game under control from late first quarter, they were certainly never a real threat after that
in fact, it was a pretty hollow win, almost an anti-climax, because we were certainly not at our best, and could easily have won by 10 goals or more

a nod to the sunset, but also to the crowd ... both magnificent

and brian taylor, fck off ... the lack of professionalism in the call towards the end, the barely concealed bitterness ... sounded like a petulant schoolboy

Honestly the Ginnivan free kick was there IMO. Thought Paddy clearly got him high before he raised his shoulder. The action from Ginnivan was still weak and shit, but the high free was actually warranted today.

I didn't like the booing (we didn't like when the Blues fans did it to JPK), but the tantrum from Conn is embarrassing.

Yes, not to toot my own horn...but frack it. I pointed this out a while ago.

There were a number of factors:
  • Coaches were still working out our best back six combo, and were inhibited by injuries to players.
  • Our back six is not all that experienced if you take out Lloyd and Rampe. P McCartin, Blakey, Florent are all fairly new to their roles and Tommy is only 21!:eyes:
  • Fox is what I call our missing cog. He's calm, he's smart and he presence down back just allows the others to play their roles better.

Funny, there wasn't as much as a whisper from the media when a champion like Goodes was booed because of his cultural heritage, and standing up against racism.

Don't know that I'm a massive fan of repeatedly booing a kid sitting injured on the bench...
Cannot agree. Ginnivan and his club have to wear this one because they've brought it entirely on themselves.

For starters, Swans fans won't be forgetting the Collingwood fans' treatment of Adam Goodes anytime soon. And he was viciously booed for calling out racism, not for not playing the game in the right spirit.

And secondly, Ginnivan seems an unsavoury character tbh. As someone who has dealt with mental health issues both with myself and amongst people very close to me, I found his comments on his mental health in the wake of the media's treatment of him absolutely reprehensible. Largely because it's entirely self-inflicted. He has baited the media endlessly for his own benefit and amusement, and then played the mental health card as an out. Just not on at all and a slap in the face to actual mental health issues that people both within and beyond the AFL struggle with.

So whilst I agree that it probably should have been let go once he was off the ground injured and no longer a factor in the game, if you want to play up your villain role, you can't then cry foul when you're treated as a villain.

Considering they disrespected us before the game even started with the cheap COLA shot, the booing felt very appropriate.
And the strained hammy karma like …
