the commentary around mcdonald is reaching peak stupidity too.

All he gets is joe the goose stuff was the reply in the game thread but people froth over JUH. Mind you if he leaves people who bag him will get their knickers in a twist.

Not saying he is perfect or near any sort of stardom but he works hard, presents and shows a fair bit.

Same as Hayward doing defensive work and getting a few goals, some people just want every player to be Wayne Carey or Greg Williams

absolutely agree! mcdonald plays his role for the team, and still does what's required as a key forward when his opportunities come
amartey stepped up today, mclean does when it's his turn, and he has the role of backing up grundy in the ruck
the team clicked as it should today ... not perfect, and never will be, but this was a very good step forward
hayward has been playing his part too ... maybe today wasn't ideal, but then papley picked up his game after a couple of disappointing games
as has been posted, this was a very mature, businesslike victory today over a potentially dangerous opponent

Not sure if it was the second quarter that clouds my memory but I thought we looked flat the whole game. Not sure how or why but I didn't get the usual buzz from our 8 goal run.
My expectations have risen so I am watching far more critically than usual. Not easy to stay in the top four. Every game feels like a final.

Id disagree he is soft, is he tearing up the contests? no, obviously he needs to improve, not like he was racking up disposals and he needs to clunk more, but he was around the ground a lot, presented hard, got a few goals, should have been 3. Not saying criticism is not warranted, just over done, to the point where his goals are too easy etc
Mate I'm not saying his goals are not earned. He is quite a clever footballer. He is rag dolled in a number of marking contests where he is almost limp. Am I here to pile on ? No. He was almost invisible in the first 2 and a half quarters so how you say he was presenting hard has me baffled. He needs to do better in contests is all I am saying.

thats fair but I guess then my point wasn't really about your criticism though

For those having a dig at Mcdonald, he is on track for a 45-50 goal season as a 22yo KPF

Is he the perfect KPF? No

Does he have a bit to work on? Yes

Can he improve? Definitely

Give him a few more years to get some size and he could very much start impacting more on the contest.

Think people forget he is two plus years younger than Mclean and Amartey and has scored more career goals.

Patience is a virtue.
Yep, exactly why I mark Mclean and Amartey harsher than I do Logan.

I feel like the video of Papley’s mark doesn’t do it justice. It was so good in person.

The body work to set up that mark and then movement to grab it was exceptional.

Papley's core strength would have to be through the roof.

He doesn't look the type, but after seeing that it wouldn't surprise me if he was doing Pilates each morning before training.
