smith will be BOG then
I don't understand your antipathy. Clarke didn't stop Gaff but he curbed his influence. Gaff and Yoe's disposals generally set them up. No Yoe and Gaff disposing at around 50% because he was under constant pressure was really good. I think he can keep Smith quiet.

Don't think of who we can shit down think of who we can exploit. For so many years we have been in this negative gear so we think of who will negate rather than who will be a proactive influence on the game first. I think our new centre square set ups and personnel are starting to work very well. We won the centre clearances last time. Just need to win the general play clearances and we have the jackpot. I think we can do that against Hawks. They were murdered in there against Don's.

If Clarko insists on playing Sicily forward this week, without Stratton, then Bud, Reid, McCartin and Blakey will have a field day. They have nobody who can take Papley either so will be in trouble there. Menzell will also be troublesome for them.

I think our back line is more than capable of exposing Hawks lack of speed. Poppy is slow now and Bruest has never been fast just clever. Their tall forwards are ordinary hence Sicily to the forward line. Thry will need to bring Roughy back to provide a contest.

Our pace will be a worry for them.

my antipathy is playing a player who is an average shut down player , in a purely negative role that does not offset how poor he is with the ball

Jack should be no where near "up for selection"

Agreed, his form hasn't been good enough this year and we should have enough experience in the side to lead the younger players.

In

Kennedy, Jones and Hayward

Out

Menzel, McVeigh (Injured) and Thurlow.

Every time we lose to Hawthorn a little part of my soul dies. Let's smack these campaigners.

Jack shouldn't be in the equation (no disrespect to the champion).

Kennedy, Jones and Hayward are obviously best 22 if 100% fit and I'd be fine with the outs being Clarke (obvious), Rose (poor bugger) and a toss up between Thurlow or Menzel. A part of me wants to keep Menzel in because I think he could be something special for us given the time but with Hayward coming back in we're pretty well stocked in the forwards department. Equally I think Thurlow is going well but Jones brings more.

Tough calls to come.

Edit: Forgot about McVeigh out injured so Clarke and Rose to miss.

I’m not seeing the logic of bringing in 3 players returning from injury. That means 3 players who are probably a little out of touch and down on match fitness. They’ve not even had a run in NEAFL

If we bring all 3 i doubt we’ll win.

I mean, Kennedy walks back in, especially considering it seemed like they were already being cautious with him before the bye. Hayward has only missed one game, so assuming he's recovered from his injury, why would he need a run in the NEAFL? It really only leaves Jones as the question mark, given he's missed a bigger chunk. If they're recovered and fit, I don't see the problem with all three coming straight back in.

If Jack plays Horse is taking the absolute piss.

People are not giving Clarke the credit he is due for his stopping roles that have set up or recent good form. Hawks are limited in the midfield now, stop O'Meara and they lose all drive.

Need to select players for the conditions, McCartin may be a weather casualty, Menzel is the man in the forecast conditions.

I think Clarke's got plenty of credit, we've all said he's been good at tagging. What more can we give? Praise about his ball use and decision-making and awareness? Because then we'd just be fabricating credit out of our arses.

Clarko to have a quiet word to Longmire after this game.

Horse to hawthorn
Clarko to Norf
Scott to the TAB.
Who do we get?

Gunston has traditionally been one of the few players who consistently has played well on Rampe (him and Jeremy Cameron as far as I recall). I'd still back Rampe to do the job given how well he's playing atm.
Traditionally he has had much better delivery of the pill ... not so much the case atm.

I'd be inclined to bring in Kennedy & Hayward for McVeigh & McCartin but give Jones & Jack a week in the NEAFL on managed minutes while allowing Thurlow another chance.
I'd give Jack the rest of the season in the NEAFL. There's a number of young players that we would benefit more from playing. Kizza is a great leader and a professional and can offer a lot more for us now in the twos.

No matter how good or how shit we are, at home we always manage to play these pricks into form.
