*I don't really count 92 or 89, cause I was not following Geelong at all back then.

That's life. That Geelong group got dudded out of a flag though. Between having to play a WA state team in 2 GFs, and then the Paper Baggers in 95, I can't remember many teams that have had to play against teams who have so much of an advantage.
Idk if we were "dudded" that much tbh- or at least if we were it doesnt bother me that much.
The finals system of 1997 seriously screwed us and was 100% unfair. Am bothered by that year alot more than I ever will be about 1994 or 95.
It is the only time Geelong has won three finals in a series and not been rewarded with a Flag. Adelaide in 1998 had the reverse, their crap effort was week one, but despite their 5th place finish in the H & A, by dint of the 7th and 8th placed sides losing they progressed to week 2, then found form. Won their next three including the GF against an inaccurate norf.Geelong's finals series that year was fantastic. To even make the Grand Final was amazing given the club was outside the 8 with like 5-6 weeks remaining. To make a Semi would have been a good achievement
Geelong played well when they had to in the first three weeks of the finals at to this day, it's the best Geelong finals series I've ever seen.
The Ablett mark seconds before the siren was a cherry on top
Anyone wants a good laugh on a Saturday morning, go check out the Fixture Discussion thread on the Richmond board.
25 odd pages of insane raving about how the corrupt AFL is deliberately screwing them over because everyone is so terrified of the awesome premiership-challenging juggernaut that is Richmond 2024.....

TO be perfectly objective, I don't think either Richmond or Geelong will be a threat in 2024
Premierships are hard to win. Damn hard. Past success guarantees nothing in the future
Of all supporter bases, surely Richmond would have learned from their 1980 experience...

I highly doubt that's something the players would be whinging about.
Well someone posted recently that Couch said the exact opposite of all that.Players. Specifically Couch, Stoneham, and Brownless.
^^^^ right there.That's life.
It isn't meant to be fair.
Paul Couch used the term, 'good steaks' when describing West Coast's physical development. He felt like a Little League player against the Eagles. "Muscles on their muscles". I don't buy into the hysteria though. On paper, they were a more even team than Geelong
It's a dead shame, but life goes on...
I have no doubt we beat WCE in 92 or 94 if we got the Grand Final at our home ground too...That's the same state team that Hawthorn had no problem thrashing in a Grand final, and that Essendon managed to knock out pretty comfortably in 1993.
For me too many Geelong players from that era trot out the "state team" excuse instead of admitting they didn't perform when it mattered. No wonder they never won a flag.

West Coast beat Geelong at KP in 1992 and 1994I have no doubt we beat WCE in 92 or 94 if we got the Grand Final at our home ground too...
West Coast beat Geelong at KP in 1992 and 1994
And at the MCG...
