Shit way to win, but at the end of the day it was a deserved free kick and we needed some luck to finally go our way somewhere.

Some of our mids had okay games but absolutely smashed in the clearances again today. I have no idea what the answer to that is, but clearly neither do our coaching staff.

Anyway, we got the W and it seemed to mean a lot to the players. Lets hope it's enough of a spark to get some semblence of momentum into our season.

That was the big positive from today for me. He moves pretty well for a player his size and his ruck craft is excellent.

Like you say... Probably 18 months away but there's a really promising player there.

Yes, they are not world beating numbers but for a 23 year old ruckman playing his first game they are excellent.

McAndrew got absolutely monstered in the ruck. McLean kinda saved us when he went in there in the last and somewhat stopped the flow of easy clearances. I know it's his first game and I'm not judging his potential, but he really didn't do anything to impress today.

Gould is so slow and I thought was largely ineffective. It's way too easy to score against him. He just doesn't impose himself.

McAndrew was monstered in the second half, and he looked spent, but he was good in the first. Just doesn't quite look physically ready to play out full games as a ruck.

I hear you.

But.

They lost LDU & still smashed our midfield one on one with a debut player in there.

I'm going to be a harsher judge on them this week against a team with 66%.
The midfield is severly underperforming. Anyone can see that. My point was today's win is not papering over anything as many are saying. Midfield being crap at the moment and injuries are contributing to our losses. (Also there is a confidence issue imo). Win or lose it is clear for all to see. Nothing is being 'paper overed' by winning. So yes I know we have issues but I still wanna win every week. So overall am I happy with the performance, particularly of the midfield? Nope. Am I happy we won, you bet.

No, it just papers over the cracks. In many ways it would have been better if we did lose. Our midfield was putrid today.
How does it paper over the cracks? You really think the club is ignoring what happened out there? What we beat one of the worst teams with a performance like that and the club now thinks everything is okay? Come on.

The midfield would've been a focus after the GF.

And after the Melbourne game in round 3.

And against Port.

And then getting belted at the Cattery.

And against Collingwood.

And last week against Freo.

Nothing seems to change or improve. Where are the solutions and adjustments? I can only think of one, being Gulden going on the inside more, and you can argue that's been a net negative overall.

Enjoyed that win, so good to have the feeling again, doesn’t matter how we got it.

Look at port, 7 wins in a row started v us.

Just arrested back momentum, ugly but a wins a win! Yeo

Yep, seems like the coaching staff are completely out of ideas. And to be honest I have no idea what we can do differently either.

We don't have a worldbeating midfield group but you'd think between Mills, Parker, Warner, Rowbottom and the others we can rotate through there that we'd at least have a midfield capable of breaking even at the stoppages some of the time.

If we kicked straight in the first 10 minutes, this could have been over by Quarter Time.

We didn’t, it wasn’t, and we probably didn’t deserve to win in the end.

But we did. With soooooo many passengers and negatives. So that’s almost a positive?

Positives
  • Parker’s effort.
  • Fox intercepting
  • Warner and Gulden late
  • McLean and Franklin
Negatives
  • Disposal. Wow. Deplorable. If Fox and Blakey got this right, they would be elite and setting up a lot more goals than they do.
  • centre bounce stoppages. See above.
  • Sheldrick 2 disposals as sub. Maybe harsh, but you watch other games and see subs have an impact. Attended 3 or 4 CBs in that time as well.
  • Campbell, Stephens should have a look at the other time and see how their opposite numbers at the same age played. These guys need to lift.
  • Goalkicking. Nearly cost us another game.
  • Turnovers in D50. Cost us so many scores. Florents in the last stands out the most.
