I said he is very good but that thought Langford was the better potential.

The point in all this is no one knows how these kids will turn out
In a perfect world, if we knew that the Eagles Pick 3 was on the table, we should have worked out a way to get it well in advance, making list spots available and trading our F1.

Young fella looks explosive, a tearaway! Those arms; his triceps have triceps  .
Love his evasive skills in the highlights.
Also seems to have great vision BEFORE he gets the ball, knows where teammates are, looks up after taking possession (not a bombs-away type, but Nicks'll Coach that outta him :sadv1:), delivers thoughtfully.

Just what we need. I can't wait to see what he does in AFL, asap.

If he had a higher ceiling according to the neutral experts ( eg head recruiters ) then he would have been a unanimous pick 1 in draft this year given it wasn’t a standout top couple like the Harley Reid or JHF year

And yet he got to pick 4

So not so laughable at all really

The south people Obvs love him as a kid and bloke and loved working with him so I can appreciate their loyalty with a statement like that

But evidence doesn’t really back it up

and even though Daicos has proven to be a better player than JHF ( so far ) , JHF has certainly proven to be a good no 1 pick already with lots to come

Daicos has been a lot better than JHF, for starters.

But putting that aside, if JHF had a top age year with injuries like Draper has, how would we have felt about them at the same stage?

Drapers footy was very well known and appreciated by his bottom age year

If JHF had of had more opportunities nationally in a covid year he may have been even more appreciated

Also - Yep one of the greatest kids in the history of the game has been better than JHF , no shock there

What about comparing JHF to other No 1 picks ?

Did it have his name on it? Otherwise isn't it possible (and this is just a bit of speculation) but maybe they would have given that pick 4 jumper to any other player they may have selected if Draper wasn't available ;)
Name and pick 4. With Smith, FOS and Langford and Ashcroft would need to cover a few bases. Draper probably knew Monday as he let on he had a conversation with Nicks. Anyway not a big deal. Pumped to have him.

JHF in 2021 was like Lalor (in the sense he was an explosive player that could impact mid and forward), but better overall 18th year production

Draper certainly has SANFL ball-winning on JHF, which is why I can see him producing at a high level even by year 2, but JHF will win more games off his own boot

Thankfully we have our own JHF equivalent in Rankine (not the same type of player obv, just in the sense both are match winners)
JHF is a beast, and will most likely win a Brownlow before all is said and done.
The good thing is that it's not a situation where there can oy be one good player.

Half the PAP board was crying that we got him, half were trying to make fun of it. The one thing they did all come together on was that they were all upset that they drafted Berry and gave away pick 45 for the honour of doing so.

Weirdly high levels of copium for the supporter base of a team with two already very good-to-elite young SA midfielders

FWIW if I was a PAP fan I wouldn’t be too upset with drafting Berry at that pick - in isolation, at least. Getting Berry and Lukosius for Houston, as a team wanting to contend, is admittedly rough, though

Just have Berry follow Lukosius and be at his feet - he will kick 20 if he does

Berry is a sensational pick for them

And I think will help fairly quickly . They lack transition run and class in forward half and he can be a bit of a connector as well as finisher

As good as Rioli is he’s very unfit and just gets through on class , is mainly a star at home deep forward

They still have very poor key defenders and defence in general IMO

And still question marks on tall forwards especially Marshall Lord and Luko ( although decent pick up )

I like our list going forward better outside of their gun mids and JHF of course !

Agree

Draper is a sensational compliment to Rankine ( and Dawson )

He will get down and dirty ( not that the others won’t )
Don't forget Soligo!
