Not just SA, but WA too. Remember the Goodes incidents? Only happened at Subiaco, absolutely nothing similar at any matches in Melbourne, no sir. Also there was never a Stop the Mosques banner at the MCG.
We're reserving the saltiness for our recruiters, putting Venables on a hiding to nothing before he's even played a game and possibly wasting our window by passing on SPP who would impact immediately.
Love how it contrasts with the Hawthorn and Melbourne comments. 3-time premiers about to sign yet another big name and Demons should spend 20% of their cap on one player, but no cap issues at those clubs...
Did I hear correctly on 5AA the other morning that Penberthy had helped Kane Cornes write his book? Very odd combo, I wouldn't trust that peanut to help me write a shopping list.
In a word, no. It's definitely pro-Eagles but a lot of that is because the media is full of dinosaurs that have been there since before the Dockers even existed. It doesn't have the same vitriol that it does in SA because of the different history of teams entering into the AFL in each state.
Random thoughts from the other side of the fence:
We really got to play you guys at the perfect time. In-form and 2 weeks without any enforced changes vs Port coming off a tough 5 weeks and maybe mentally easing up for a supposedly easier match. Also Wines and Polec absent evened the ledger...
FWIW I was standing in front of the scoreboard and the breeze at the time of the toss felt like it was coming over my left shoulder, so mostly across the ground but slightly favouring the southern end too - Boak's decision made sense to me. I don't think anyone knows which way it was blowing...
I have my usual expectations going into a game against Port - we'll lose and Robbie Gray will be BOG :(
I hope Kennedy plays (and is actually fit) as last week was our best performance in 2 years and I want to see how we go against a team that IMO is a top-4 outfit. Port have been our bogey...
Both teams going in pretty strong so here's hoping for a quality game and no more injuries.
Anyone got any good food/drink/parking tips around Norwood Oval?
He is an SA lad but I expect him to either re-sign with us or retire during 2015, depending on whether or not he can finally get past his injury issues. I guess when you play with such reckless abandon for your own safety injuries are always a possibility.
From Cornes' article (paraphrasing):
"Port get a clean stadium" (assuming ditto for Crows)
"How much money do the SACA make out of an AFL game day?"
Surely if the first point were true then the second answer would be zero. Not sure if it's ignorance or doublethink on his part.
I listened to one of yours (last week's episode) and it was very good stuff, so :thumbsu:. Actually preferred it to the Eagles one that sounded too much like a circle-jerk of in-jokes between the participants.
I've replaced 5AA/MMM with BigFooty podcasts for my in-car listening and am now getting more intelligent comment in 1 hour from "losers" than I'd get in a month of listening to paid "professionals" on the radio.
I'm not sure who is to blame for the cartoon jumpers but taking the Crows as an example, their SANFL guernsey would be a great clash guernsey for them in the AFL.
Could've given it a decent shake last year if that campaigner MP hadn't inexplicably rested players in the R16 tie at Sunderland. Win that and we'd have played Hull (beat them twice in the league) then Sheff Utd (League One) and been in the final.
I'll end derail here.
2 positives to come out of this saga for me:
1) It's been such a monumental PR embarrassment for the AFL that they'll finally have to do something about their farcical clash policy.
2) I've finally had it with 5AA and switched off for good. The tipping point was 5 minutes this morning...
When Judd got suspended for that 'pressure point' move against a Brisbane player in a final he was still eligible for the Brownlow in both that year and the following one. Not sure about Round 23 suspensions but I suspect they'd be ineligible the year of offence and eligible the year after.
You're assuming he knew he was speeding. It's remarkably easy to miss a speed sign when you're driving on a road that has speed limits changing as frequently as the expressway did during the works. Not saying he should've got off but it's more likely he was speeding unintentionally than if for...
