yes, indeed! warner barrelled two bombers one after the other, it was relentless ... that's two tackles to one swan within about three seconds ... only 28 tackles less than essendon managed all night

it also reminded me of a swans player years ago, i have a feeling it was paul bevan and i think it was in the middle of the scg but the memory is not that clear, but the swans player tackled an opponent who handed off to a teammate nearby and the swans player tackled him too, in the same action ... a double tackle
i friggin love warner ... and again last night he showed that remarkable composure in possession, to dance in and around players when you think he's going to get caught ... then find a teammate with a sweet, sweet kick
I vaguely remember that play, it was a great one.

Last year there was something similar as well, I think it was Henney (or was it Mills?) who was out numbered 2 or 3 to 1 and just kept lunging at the next player and then caused a turnover.

That sh*t is better than any goal, lifts the team and demoralises the opposition, love it!

Bell least score involvements than any other player , has to go , got gifted a goal and that's about it

I thought Bell was surprisingly very good, especially early. One of his best performances I've seen.

Though I still can't forgive that miss from straight out in front against the Giants that cost us the game and the season last year.

Have a look at his stats , not good . Don't dislike him , i just think we have better options , just not good enough that's all.

- All round great performance. The kind of game where you feel most teams may struggle to beat us.

- Agree with the comments on Wicks here. Seems much more suited to our team over Ronke (not having a dig at Ronke)

- Thought Logan’s pressure as a key forward was incredible…just so agile. Didn’t get the goals but created 3 or 4

- Buddy… gee we / the AFL community take him for granted. The bloke is 35, and still one of the best players in the comp without question.

- I really try with Bell. He probably had one of his better games, but I just can’t help but feel he is half a play behind always. Seems to just miss laying the tacke, or just chip the ball over someone’s head. Perhaps it’s a different perspective on the ground and that hustling works, as coaches seem to trust him over many others

- Liked the two rucks - Ladhams seems to have good hands which works very well in our system.

- You could tell the quick start was a priority last night, lots of pumping after during that first qtr. great to see.

The kick to Chad is safe. Chances are the others will hit the deck. The only other kick is just in front to Mills but that's still a hard kick to make

Kicking to Blakey is not a good kick. Every chance it results in a turnover and goal to Essendon.

Parker and Gulden are well covered by Essendon. They wouldn't make that mark and turning over in the middle is not where you want to be.

Kick to Hayward is impossible. Lloyd doesn't have that great a kick.

Kick to Mills is the only good option, would have been a better option than Warner but Warner was the second best and safest option
From memory he missed the chad kick and it went out of bounds

yes, i think last year's was heeney, and he was eventually rewarded

This infuriated me last night. If you can't make a decision in a game we are are up by 6 goals and under no pressure at all...What hope does he have.

i remember that play, the first option was blakey coming back into space inside the arc, lloyd should've hit him immediately ... as soon as he hedged on that there was the potential for trouble
as soon as lloyd pauses to actually think about it, rather than just playing, you know he's second guessing himself
generally, he was better last night but he's still plagued by bad decision-making

kicking to blakey was the best first choice because blakey was moving into space before any essendon player reacted ... the only danger to it was lloyd fluffing the kick ... unfortunately that's become a regular thing

Great post

On their coach, it looked like he was their friend on the bench. If your team is tracking towards 30 tackles while losing the possession count, I think you need to be a little bit scared of coming to the bench if your coach is there. If the effort is there, of course the coach should be supportive regardless of the score. But that effort from Essendon was abysmal. I haven’t been watching the Dons closely - maybe the coach has given some sprays in his time - but the coaching approach just seemed weird…
rutten was a defender and vowed, on taking over as coach, to make them a good defensive side ... they are as far from that as is imaginable

Hard to read too much into that result. Essendon were about as poor as any side I've seen, the way we were often able to waltz through the midfield was ridiculous.

Most of the team were on song tonight. Another 3 vote performance from Mills, Gulden and Warner dangerous as anything, Franklin and Papley a handful up forward.

Only blemish was the goalkicking. Could've, arguably should've been an 80+ point win.

Looking at the condensed game yesterday, boy did they make us look good in some passages. Zero pressure to just run through the middle from halfback. LOLESSINGTON

Meanwhile Gold Coast played the game of their lives and planned it to perfection. To be fair in hindsight GC gave the Dees a run for their money so they aren't super bad. Essendon just look defeated.
